VIVAnews - Mei Diriana, a two-year old girl, was found dead in Pesona Anggrek housing complex, Kelurahan Harapan Jaya, North Bekasi. The little girl was allegedly a victim of abuse committed by her own stepfather.
Mei Diriana’s body was found lying on the floor of their living room by her birth mother, Samsiah (26), on Tuesday, 12 June 2012, at around 7 pm.
As informed by Jakarta Police Public Relations Division, wounds were spotted all over the victims’ body, such as bruises on the right eye, bumps on the head, bruises on left and right hands. Her death was immediately reported by the residents to the North Bekasi Police Department.
Last night, Police visited the crime scene and conducted an investigation. Based on several witnesses’ statements, Police suspected Rifai Afandi (31), Mei’s stepfather, as the murderer as he was nowhere to be found when the girl's body was located.
Just hours after the incident, Police immediately arrested Rifai and took him to Bekasi Kota Police Headquarters to be questioned by the Women and Children Service Unit (PPA).
Rifai then admitted that the murder was not committed on purpose. He said that when he was hitting Mei, the girl fell from the sofa. The Police are still looking into whether or not other motives were unfolded behind the incident.
